BSPP Fittings

BSPP Fittings Thread conforms to ISO 228-1, The port complies with ISO 1179, Pitch and diameter measured in inches, e.g. Ex. G1 / 4-19, Parallel threads require an O-ring, lock washer, gasket, or metal-to-metal seal between the connections for a tight connection, The angle of the thread is 55 °, Not interchangeable with SAE or NPT (F)

British Standard Pipe Parallel (BSPP Fittings)

The sealing of the BSPP joint is the 30° chamfer in the external thread on the pipe fitting to the 30° conical seat in the internal thread in the pipe (rotation only). If it is a port application in a hydraulic system, O-rings and gaskets, elastic seals, or adhesive gaskets are required to achieve the correct sealing of parallel threads.

  • BSP Fitting is a family of technical standards for threads that have been adopted internationally to interconnect hoses and fittings by mating an external (male) thread with an internal (female) thread. British Standard Pipe threads are similar in function to NPT threads but are generally not interchangeable.

How to identify BSPP fittings

  • Confirm that the thread is parallel or tapered.
  • Determine the thread count per inch (TPI) using a thread gauge or calipers.
  • Determine the outside diameter of the thread (male thread) or the inside diameter (female thread) using calipers.

BSPP fittings Seal

  • Male BSPP O Ring has straight threads and O Ring with the metal retaining ring. Seals against the flat outer surface of the female BSPP port.
  • Male BSPP, chamfered to locate Bonded Seal also seals against the flat outer surface of the female BSPP port. Surface irregularities require a spot surface to ensure an effective seal.
  • The BSPP elbows and tees have a lock nut to allow the attachment to be oriented in the required direction.
  • The male BSPP and female BSPP flat face swivel requires a suitable soft washer between the faces to seal. For low working pressure.
